TRANSform/
TRANScend
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Year: 2011-2012
Funding Organization: Sound Transit
TRANSform/TRANScend celebrated the coming changes that the new light rail system would bring to the industrial Tacoma neighborhood and beyond. A temporary construction site art installation, the project was located on top of the Sound Transit construction trailer at the heart of the project. The project included an illuminated green roof grid, along with a construction fence art banner highlighting green roof design and benefits.
Teresa was the Lead Artist, with mentoring by Buster Simpson, and green roof consultation by Patrick Hayes.
Raising the Roof
Created with industrial construction materials, this green roof art installation celebrated the materials of the transit project. 24 landscape construction grids were used as the superstructure to hold green roof sedums atop the construction trailer roof. The grids had to be planted on the ground, and then lifted by crane to the roof. Illuminated by industrial construction lamps, the green roof was a beacon of environmental urban transformation.
